“Movement with Purpose” Presentation Series
Inactivity is now the fourth major cause of death globally. Over 70% of all deaths are lifestyle related sometimes referred to as the “disuse syndrome”. More specifically inactivity is responsible for 22% of deaths from cardiovascular disease, 22% of colon cancer deaths, 18% of bone fractures, 12% of hypertension and 5% of breast cancer deaths, accounting for 2.4% of the US health care expenditure costing $24,000,000,000 per year!!
More people die from inactivity related illnesses than from car accidents, gun deaths, sexually transmitted diseases and drug overdoses combined. In fact over 5 million people globally die every year from inactivity related illnesses, which is almost as many that die from smoking.
How is this possible… when over the past 30 years there has been a 146% growth in the number of health clubs in the US representing approximately 36,540 centres. The weight loss industry alone is now worth over $79 billion globally while Dr James Levine reports that the US spends the equivalent to the Gross National Product of Bangladesh on weight loss solutions alone!!
